Subject :Re: Re: Rogers’ Class of ‘60’s 50th Reunion – 2010 - Ideas and Suggestions

I agree with your 2d suggestion, Dora Faye: planning by people who want and CAN work together, united and not trying to focus so much on being a head honcho. All of us want a well-planned Big 50th, possibly that last reunion for some of us, and we DO NOT want to attend anything that has a gang-fight atmosphere. I don't want to attend a reunion with gripers. Renewing memories, getting updates with fellow alums--that's what reunions are supposed to be all about.

One thing that's basic for this reunion is we know what's going on and being planned...or can be that way. It allows us, especially us Pirates away from the Flagship who can get information and commend or make suggestions. COMMUNICATION! It's important and good to have. As a sergeant-instructor in my ROTC class at WSU taught us about communication: "If you ain't got commo, you ain't got s..t".

I've formed an opinion that we've had a bit TOO MUCH communication -- hurtful communiction. This reunion is one of the first decade reunions where most people are on email. The trouble with email is that a "private" communication is not necessairily that. Email also has the replication issue where one copy can be blind-copied, forwarded after the fact. A poison email is like a virus. It can replicate and spread. An email doesn't necessarily ever go away.

These forums (fora?) are also un-private and durable. They are like a sign nailed to a tree. At any rate, we need to treat electronic communication as if it were a recorded public conversation, especially to third parties named in them.

Well fellow former classmates, why aren't we using this forum to discuss all the junk about which people are writing e-mails??????

I think we have a real problem brewing (or maybe it's through brewing, maybe it's on the burner and burning) -- and we probably don't need to discuss it further except to figure out where to go from here.  I think we need to either: 1) keep on keeping on and let the dust fall where it may, or 2) start the planning over with those who commit to cooperate and respect each other.

What do others think -- about moving on?  We've got a special reunion to plan!!!!!!!!

  • Planning for the John R. Rogers 50-year reunion began at a March 10 meeting held in Spokane.
  • The agenda was the tentative formation of committees and chairs.
  • We'll publish names and duties here, after they are firm.
  • The first work product will be a near-term first mailing to the class of 1960 alumi-of-record.

I can help if you have problems uploading a picture, or you can send it to me and I'd put it into your profile.

You were my first user. I registered you a few months ago and plunked in the flower for a placeholder picture.

I am trying this out!

Guess I need to find a picture!

So you would click "September" and then click "Vote".

If this is for the poll of what month to have the reunion, that Dora Faye asked for, September might be better because lots of things happen post-summer, for example, we alums could go to a Rogers football game and sing "Hats Off to Rogers High" on Friday night.

Nothing serious. Whenever. Most of us, I suspect, are retirees so any month, any day would probably do.

Goody. You read a forum, posted a reply, and then actually voted in a poll. Sealed

Forgot to mention that polls only appear on the first page.

To navigate up in your current page hierarchy, click on a breadcrumb (e.g. Home  Forums  2010 Reunion  Polls  ...  at the top of this page).  To navigate to the start page (where the polls are), click on

  • the pirate (he likes clicks),
  • or "Home" in the breadcrumbs,
  • or "Home" in the Main Menu.

Is your first question posted?  I didn't see it at the top right of my page. On the top right is a picture of Spokane and a search area.

Let's see the first question and I'll try to get a bunch of people to participate.

I've begun a series of one-question, multiple choice answer polls. Each current poll appears at the upper right of your page, if you are logged into the site. You can only vote once. You would simply click a choice and then click the Vote button.

After (and if) a reasonable number of people respond, I'll close the current poll and publish a new one. You would be able to view results of the current and previous polls by clicking the Results button.

If nobody votes, I'll stop the polling.

On members' questionnaire: if we collect and decide on a reasonable number of items, I can place them on the user profile as additional optional inputs. Classmates.com or Facebook.com or simlar social networking sites have Q/A sections that could serve as a model.

Let's talk it up a bit. Then I'll put more tabs and fields on the user account profile. Any user can update their own profile at any time.

On the email address issue, three of us are pooling our lists. Grace Ward Kassa is the research person who is the ultimate authority. I plan to post the list here, but visible only to logged-in users, as a protective measure.

Loretta is cooking a great Lasagna dinner and our daughter is bringing Loretta's mom over for dinner and a few hours visit.  I got called away to help and got rushed before I sent the last posting.

I meant to say I Phone, not I Pod.

We could also make up a menu of questions to help expand members profile.  Some of the ones I mentioned, plus:

What was your favorite movie this last year?

Do you listen to NPR (National Public Radio)?   Prarie Home Companion or other favorites

I wonder if we have a list of e mail addresses for class members that is more current than those in the September 2005 c;ass directory

More later

Excellent ideas, Mike. This would be an improvement over just Wyatt and I writing stories (although we will continue this until the reunion).

Loretta likes her iPod? Me too. That seems to be a change in habits that occurred after we were in kindergarten together. Cool

It would be fun to see who members favorite teachers or subjects were after all these years.

Compare notes on how current economy is impacting retirement or retirement plans

What is the last book you read or last 3

You favorite place to travel?

Are any teachers still living and active at reunions?

Loretta (Rose) Merewether LOVES her I Pod.  How many useres are there and what is your favorite application.

How many Text to grandkids or play Runscape?

These are just a few ways we could share

... this is how a reply appears. Notice that it's ABOVE the item to which it replies. Not my idea.

Topic : Guidelines and rules

There is no charge for membership in this community. In return, you would follow these common-sense guidelines:

  • This forum is intended to as an online community of John R. Rogers High School alumni and faculty. The target year is 1960, but persons with ties to those involved with Rogers are welcome.
  • You must be a registered user of this site to post material to a forum. Some forums (such as this one) could be locked for updates. Anonymous guests may read the public forums of this site. Some forums could be visible only to the reunion committee, for example.
  • I will manually verify registeration requests. Generally, only those with trivial or obviously aliased credentials would be rejected.
  • Offensive material or language will be removed. I will be the sole judge of this, because I pay for the site in time and money. Let common sense be your guideline. Repeat offenders would be blocked from logging into the site.
  • Please try to create topics under a category most specific to your topic.
Enough negative-sounding rhetoric. Please enjoy the community through these forums. Smile
